The majority of us know how to ride a bike, right? But, how did we learn to ride a bike? Someone took the time to give us a few lessons and make sure we knew what to do. Studying needs to be taught in a similar fashion. No one is born knowing how to study. Study skills need to be taught and then practiced by using the new learned skills.

Let me begin by saying that, the benefits of reading are not limited to 10 reasons, but are the top most important reasons. This post should encourage you to pick up that book you’ve been meaning to finish so you can start the next one.
There are endless stories that can both broaden your understanding of the world and help you get through a point in your life. Those who read have been known to have a more finely-tuned brain than those who prefer more passive activities.

Bystanders are kids and teens who witness bullying and cyberbullying in action; who stand by and watch, who videotape it and make it viral… and who do and say nothing!
Very often these kids and teens don’t know what to do. They are afraid of retaliation or fear that their own group will exclude them for helping an outsider.

Middle school is challenging for so many reasons – academics become more difficult, schedules fill up with activities in what might be the most treacherous terrain for kids and parents alike, friendships change.
The peers your tween son or daughter cling to as they enter middle school may look a lot different from the ones they race out with on the other side; that’s to be expected. Friendships change over time, not just because our children evolve, but because the very nature of friendship evolves with them.

Given that many children struggle with multiplication, I thought it would be a good idea to find ways to help children memorize multiplication facts. With schools teaching Common Core Standards, children are required to fluently multiply and divide within 100, by the third grade. Here are a few strategies that can help your children better understand and memorize the multiplication facts.

Have you ever wondered “how will I know if my child is being bullied?”, “Will I be able to help?”
There are many different warning signs that indicate whether or not someone is being bullied or being affected by it. Recognizing the warning signs is an important first step in taking action against bullying because not all children who are bullied ask for help.

Common Core…Do you cringe at the sound of these two words? Feeling overwhelmed by the sheer volume of dense and conflicting information out there about the Common Core State Standards?
Common Core State Standards are academic benchmarks intended to define the knowledge and skills that high school graduates will need in order to be successful in college and careers. 40 states and the District of Colombia began implementing the common core standards in their public schools.
Common Core is the curriculum of work done by two nationwide groups, the National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers, which were tasked with evaluating why American school kids were falling behind on global education benchmarks as well as college-and-career-readiness.

Mean Girl Behavior: Relational Aggression is behavior that is seen when kids manipulate others through friendship withdrawal, silent treatment, and gossip. A study conducted by the University of New York at Buffalo on girls between the ages of 3 – 12, found that there are some girls that understand relationally aggressive tactics as early as preschool. The study also found that girls associate this behavior with being a girl. At a young age girls learn to handle conflict with relational aggression, boys on the other hand- associate physical aggression with being male.

Thanksgiving is truly a special day. It was first celebrated in 1621 when the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Indians shared a fall harvest. In the United States, Thanksgiving is held on the fourth Thursday in November.
When we think of Thanksgiving we think of visiting with family and friends, and watching Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade either in person or on television.
