Family Life Academy Charter School 1 has welcomed author Heather Arabadjis to our school

three times. Twice we’ve had the pleasure to hold a read aloud of “Monster Mas” and “Monster

Mas vs, the test” with author Heather Arabadjis.  These stories teach children very simple

methods of how we should control our tempers, emotions and how to deal with testing anxiety.

We invited parents of our kindergarten, 1 st , 3 rd and 4 th grade scholars. They absolutely loved the

event. After both the events, parents felt motivated to read aloud to their children more often at

home and loved her enthusiasm and passion for teaching students.

Our scholars, teachers, and parents enjoyed reading her books.  I truly believe students of all

ages will enjoy her books. I highly recommend Heather Arabadjis for a read aloud to any school.

She is energetic, vivid, and animated. Her book readings moment to moment are filled with

capturing the attention of young readers. She engages children in the story for an unforgettable

read aloud experience. Children understand the message and quickly adapt to its catchy theme.

In addition, she personally signs books with an encouraging message for children. When

students opened up the book to see their name in it their facial expressions were priceless.

As a School Counselor I’m constantly incorporating different counseling strategies to help my students cope with their feelings and emotions. Therefore, when author, Heather Arabadjis introduced me to her first book, “Monter Mas,” and shared her vision to introduce it to my students, I was immediately captivated with the story and knew that my students would love her book. Heather Arabadjis conducted a read aloud “Monster Mas” event for my Kindergarten students, and they simply loved it! They were fascinated by the story, not to mention that they loved their own copy of the book and the melodious song. Throughout the years, my students have enjoyed the Monster Mas Series (Monster Mas, Monster Mas vs. The Test and Monster Mas Runs for President) and recently the interactive participation of the main character, “Mas.” My elementary and middle school students enjoy the interactive events, engaging activities and Heather’s enthusiasm. Heather’s books teach children strategies on how to deal with anger, frustration, tolerance, bullying, test anxiety, and how to be persistent, confident and achieve a positive attitude. It is very gratifying to see that my students are able to incorporate the strategies mentioned on the books as well as being able to relate to Mas and his adventures. The Monster Mas Series has become part of my counseling library!

HEATHER ARABADJIS – MONSTER MAS

Heather came and visited our school to present Monster Mas to our students…and what an excellent presentation it was!

Heather worked closely with the school prior to her visit, so came very well prepared to do the reading. Her presentation was so lively and engaging – the students were entranced! They had an opportunity to ask questions afterwards, as well as work on some activities. And as an added bonus, Heather presented a signed copy to each student!

The book itself, Monster Mas, is a great resource which offers a number of different ways, or tools to help children to stay calm when the going gets tough or when faced with stressful situations. It is also a great resource for teachers to use when working closely with students.
